The Great UP Run was a huge success!

So last Sunday, I joined the Runrio organised “The Great UP Run” at where else but the UP Diliman Campus. All I can say is that it was a huge success and congratulations are in order for Coach Rio Dela Cruz for making a comeback in organising the said annual event for the second time around since 2007.

The Great UP Run is a fund-raising event that will benefit the UP athletes. For that alone, the event deserves all the kudos. The UP Athletes have more than 4,500 runners to be grateful for. The proceeds of the event according to Coach Rio will be used to finance the UP Athletes’s need when it comes to their training. Hopefully, this will help them become better players and perform well during the next UAAP season.

All those being said, here is my take on the recently held “The Great UP Run.”

First of all, it was a classic Runrio running event. Ample hydration stations and enough Marshalls scattered along the race route. Speaking of the race route, I would have to say that it was a challenging one. The two loops would have been easier if not for some “makunat” parts. It was also nice to run along Tandang Sora/Old Balara where local folks, especially kids cheer you up.

Kudos also to the runners for bringing their own hydration bottles. Like the National Geographic Run held earlier this year, Runrio did not provide paper cups in the hydration stations. This helped in reducing the wastes and litters along the way. Hopefully, other race organisers will do the same.

Overall, the race was very organised and was indeed a huge success. The finisher’s medal for the 21K runners was great as well as the singlet and finisher’s shirt. Congratulations once again to Runrio and hopefully Coach Rio will continue to organised this event in the coming years.
