There it goes. Just like that. I finished my third marathon for 2014. And this was at the Run United Philippine Marathon 2014. This also completes my Run Rio 2014 series, having joined Run United 1 (21K) and Run United 2 (32K). First time for me to do this and so the combined medal was all worth the money, time and energy spent.
RUPM 2014 also gave me my revenge for the RUPM 2013 when I practically walk the last 12KMs of the race. Last year, I clocked in at around 6:50. But this time around, it was way better, having finished the race at 5:30 mark. I know it’s nothing to brag about considering that others have finished earlier and run faster but for my personal satisfaction, this finish is more than enough. But I know I could do better. So, till next year’s RUPM then.
As for my assessment of the RUPM 2014. Well, what can I say? Rio handled the race very well again. There were ample hydration stations with water and gatorade and even loads of bananas. There were enough medics located strategically along the routes. Race marshalls were deployed in critical areas. Police men in Makati City were not only helpful in managing the traffic but were pretty supportive of the runners as well.
The race route was different from last year. That “cruel” u-turn followed by an uphill climb towards the Roxas Blvd. flyover was something to remember. I also like the route in BGC which is predominantly straight and there were very few turns.
Overall, RUPM 2014 is another one for the books. Hopefully, next year’s Run United Series will be even better. Congratulations to all 42K finishers! You’ve earned your medal, cherish it for good!
See you again next year fellow Run United runners!
